Sanctions: letters with IMO about wether russian vessel Shtandart is falling or not within the scope of the relevant international conventions

Under the pressure of a pro-russian lobby, the French governmental agency in charge of controlling the respect of sanctions pretends russian vessel « Shtandart » can bypass EU regulation because it would not be a ship falling within the scope of the relevant international conventions. The question was asked to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Certains d’entre eux se sont réunis, le 18 février 2022, à Rouen, pour appeler Jean-Paul Rivière et Philippe Chastres de « L’Armada 2023 » au respect de la réglementation européenne et à la décence dans leur instrumentalisation marketing des abominations que subit l’Ukraine du fait de son bourreau russe.

European sanctions prohibit all Russian ships from entering French ports. A second letter was sent to the organizers of « Rouen Armada 2023 – Freedom Sails » (L’Armada Rouen 2023 – Les Voiles de la Liberté). They are reminded of the risks, in particular criminal, to which they are exposed when using the services of the Russian frigate « Standart ».

Shtandart: le 20 décembre 2022, c’est un média national, France 3, qui s’est fait l’écho, sans contradiction, de la complète réécriture, par Catherine Léonidas, première adjointe au maire de la Rochelle, d’un texte adopté à l’unanimité des Etats membres de l’Union européenne.

The Russian ship « Shtandart » case: reminder letter to French Prime Minister,

At the beginning of July 2022, Oleh Sentsov and Roman Sushchenko, together with about thirty Ukrainian associations of France, wrote to the Prime Minister of France asking her to put an end to the violation of sanctions by the Russian ship  » Shtandart ». As of December 19, 2022, no response has been received. And no measures have been taken to put an end to this illegal situation under European law. As a result, #NoShtandartInEurope sent a reminder letter to the Head of Government, Ms Élisabeth Borne, informing her that the Shtandart scandal has been exposed to the Presidency of the French Republic.

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, following an invitation of the « Ukraine Atlantique » Association, around a hundred Ukrainians and French supporters of Ukraine came from Rennes, Saint-Malo, Caen, Paris, Nantes, Saintes, Bordeaux and various other cities to back their counterparts in La Rochelle. On several occasions, they encouraged the mayor of La Rochelle, Jean-François Fountaine, and the prefect of Charente-Maritime, Nicolas Basselier, to take note of the fifth part of the sanctions voted unanimously, by the States members of the European Union, on April 8, 2022. According to the activists, this text prohibits Russian ships from entering EU ports.

Le dimanche 11 décembre à l’invitation de l’association « Ukraine Atlantique », une centaine d’Ukrainiens et de Français sympathisants de l’Ukraine, sont venus de Rennes, de Saint-Malo, de Caen, de Paris, de Nantes, de Saintes, de Bordeaux et de différentes autres localités apporter leur soutien à leurs homologues de La Rochelle. À plusieurs reprises, ils ont incité le maire de La Rochelle, Jean-François Fountaine, et le préfet de Charente-Maritime, Nicolas Basselier, à prendre connaissance du cinquième volet des sanctions voté, le 8 avril 2022, à l’unanimité des Etats membres de l’Union européenne. Depuis lors, les navires russes ont, juridiquement, interdiction d’entrer dans les ports européens.
