The Russian ship "Shtandart" case: reminder letter to French Prime Minister

Short URL: https://bit.ly/Shtandart-reminder-prime-minister

At the beginning of July 2022, Oleh Sentsov and Roman Sushchenko, together with about thirty Ukrainian associations of France, wrote to the Prime Minister of France asking her to put an end to the violation of sanctions by the Russian ship  » Shtandart ». As of December 19, 2022, no response has been received. And no measures have been taken to put an end to this illegal situation under European law. As a result, #NoShtandartInEurope sent a reminder letter to the Head of Government, Ms Élisabeth Borne, informing her that the Shtandart scandal has been exposed to the Presidency of the French Republic.

Re: the Russian ship « Shtandart » has made La Rochelle its home port in violation of the fifth package of sanctions.

Nantes, décember 19, 2022

Dear Madam Prime Minister,

On July 8, 2022, Mr. Oleh Sentsov and Mr. Roman Sushchenko, former Kremlin prisoners, sent you a letter co-signed by around thirty organizations representing the Ukrainian community in France, https://bit.ly/Shtandart- letter-sentsov-sushchenko. You were asked to make sure that La Rochelle complies with the fifth package of sanctions unanimously voted by the Member States of the European Union on April 8, 2022. Your office has not taken any action in this regard, nor did it answer to this letter.

Since then, the Russian ship Shtandart has been banned from entering Spanish maritime festivals. Rgarding this vessel, there is therefore only France which contravenes the fifth part of the sanctions. Thus, the Shtandart continued, in French ports, its commercial activity and its work as ambassador of the Russian Federation, without prejudice to other missions resulting from its agreement, signed, in 202O, with the Russian authorities. On November 23, 2022, the European Parliament declared the Russian state to be a state sponsor of global terrorism, while the Shtandart made La Rochelle its home port. Seen from the very Europhile Ukraine, such a situation is not understandable. In France, the Ukrainian community and the French people supporting Ukraine are shocked. A demonstration took place on December 11 in La Rochelle to remind the mayor and the prefect of their duties.

This case must come to an end. On December 18, 2022, our committee #NoShtandartInEurope appealed to the French President. Your office can review our mail online: https://bit.ly/Shtandart-letter-to-Fr-president.

We remain at your disposal for any further information and ask you, Madam Prime Minister, to accept the expression of our highest consideration.

For the #NoShtandartInEurope committee,
Bernard Grua, spokesperson
