Part one: About BarefootRara
BarefootRara is an « anonymous » Twitter handle. Its profile pictures do not correspond with the owner of this account, Ramla Akhtar, aka Rmala Aalam, an urban female from Karachi, saying she currently lives in Gilgit. These stolen pictures are intended to deceive an audience, to hide the actual ID of the cyberstalker and to deliver a romantic vision of her personality, fitting with a self-fiction in a permanent re-writing.

Part two: BarefootRara’s Story

BarefootRara started its cyberstalking activity in May 2019. This malevolence is turned against the ethnic and religious Wakhi minority from northern mountains of Pakistan. BarefootRara is also fighting against the visitors of the community, subject to the fact they are white western people. There is a large, on-line, documentation about such an anti-social activity. The modus operandi is a panel combining impersonation, defamation, calumnious denunciation, hate speech, harassment and calls for violences.

Part three: BarefootRaRa’s Legal Case

BarefootRara operates from a grey zone of the international laws, the Pakistani judicial loophole. However, the following steps were of importance for French authorities and for western media to evidence good faith, transparency and opening for dialogues, through a bordered and standard procedure: conciliation propositions, formal demand notices, complaint with French and Pakistani authorities. The cyberstalker clarified its aggressor status by her refusal of the fair and generous proposition granting her impunity, which could have allowed her to come back to a normal and appeased life. She formally confirmed she chose confrontation.

Part four: Ramla’s Projects, a Scam

BarefootRara frequently mentions her comitment on promoting a sustainable development through her entity « Rmala’s Projects » that she presents as a charitable NGO. However, this « organization » has no legal status, no employees, no volunteers and no achievements. The projects presented are those of other organizations. Actually, this is just a Facebook group for discussing about general topics. This is also a tool for collecting public donations directed to Ramla Akhtar’s personal account on a non-transparent and non-trustable way.

Part five: BetterBonds by Rmala

BetterBonds by Ramla is the name Ramla Akhtar uses for some sorts of business. Betterbonds is supposed to sell consultancies and natural products from Himalayan medicine. This is an unregistered entity with no formal status, while proposing « packages » for curing diabetes, cancer, COVID19, osteoarthritis, mental disorders… Without any control and without any qualification, this should be considered as an illegal medicine practise. However, there is likely no strong risk for anybody, while the deliveries seem to be extremely reduced, if any. This is more a cover activity for giving Ramla Akhtar a social status, while BetterBonds does not provide her livelihood which might come from other sources, raising numerous questions from local people around her.

Part six: Partners in Counter-Propaganda

BarefootRara and BestInventoryFX’s propaganda are countered by different websites used for debunking this alternative reality, for burying the defamation discourse and for revealing who is actually behind these anonymous and impersonating Twitter handles. Indeed, they work as an efficient network of backlinks whose result is shown by SERP’s (Search Engine Result Pages). This network mostly reaching France, Northern Pakistan, USA, and Afghanistan, allows to contain any public media campaign, to prevent hate speech and harassment in a pack. The counter-propaganda campaign isolates BarefootRara into a pariah’s status.
